Cluj-Napoca is the second largest city in Romania. It is the capital of Cluj County in the Transylvania region and the seat of the Northwest Planning Region. Approximately 330,000 inhabitants live here. Today, Cluj-Napoca is one of Romania’s most important cultural, economic and scientific centres.
The Romanian WTE branch office has been located in Cluj-Napoca since 2011.
The town of Gilau is located 14 kilometres west of Cluj-Napoca and is one of two main supplies from which the city of Cluj-Napoca draws its drinking water.
On 18 February, the signing of the contract for the rehabilitation and modernisation of the Gilau drinking water treatment plant took place in the offices of the client Compania de Apa Somes SA in Cluj. From the side of the client, the General Director Mr. Calin Neamtu, the Deputy General Director Mr. Mihai Iacob and the Head of Department for the implementation of projects financed by EU funds Ms. Delia Craciun participated in the event. From the WTE side, Mr Liviu Bell signed the contract and Mr Dan Muresanu accompanied him.
The water treatment project (capacity 2,250 l/s) includes the rehabilitation and extension of the existing water treatment plant for the supply of the city of Cluj. The existing process stages are to be renewed and modernised. In addition, the sludge line for the management of the sludge produced is to be constructed. The financing is provided by a POIM programme (EU Funding). POIM is an Operational Programme “Large Infrastructure”, which promotes measures in the infrastructural sector that focus on the areas of transport infrastructure, environmental protection, adaptation to climate change and energy and energy efficiency.
With this environmental project, we are also giving clean water back to nature and the people of Romania.
