Successful completion of the boiler pressure test at the sewage sludge incineration plant in Halle-Lochau.
A sewage sludge incineration plant with power generation is currently being built in Halle-Lochau. The plant is being erected by sludge2energy GmbH (S2E), a joint venture between WTE Wassertechnik GmbH – a 100% subsidiary of EVN AG – and HUBER SE. The plant will be operated by WTE Betriebsgesellschaft (WTEB). In the future, 30,000 to 35,000 tonnes of dewatered sewage sludge will be incinerated at the site and its phosphorus-containing ash will be landfilled. The next step will be the economically and ecologically sensible recovery of the vital phosphorus from the sewage sludge ash. The process meets the latest standards and strict requirements are implemented. The drying concept has been adapted so that all aqueous residues from the vapour treatment can be recycled separately.
The construction of the plant is progressing well. The solid construction and the steel construction have already been completed and essential main trades such as the boiler have already been placed.
A milestone was reached in the last few weeks. The pressure test of the boiler took place (quasi the “Gleichenfeier” for boiler builders), where the boiler was subjected to approx. 2.5 times the operating pressure of 107 bar in total. The TÜV as the monitoring body confirmed the sufficient strength and proof of tightness. The thermal boiler output of the fluidised bed furnace is 3.4 MW.
Commissioning of the plant is planned for autumn 2021.
