On Thursday, April 7, 2022, the first sewage sludge mono-incineration plant for Central Germany officially went into operation. The facility was inaugurated in the presence of Saxony-Anhalt’s Economics Minister Sven Schulze and other guests.
The planning, assembly and construction of the system was carried out by “sludge2energy” (S2E), founders and co-shareholders are WTE Wassertechnik GmbH – a 100% subsidiary of EVN AG – and Huber SE. The WTE operating company takes over the operation of the thermal sewage sludge utilization plant.
More than 25 million euros have been invested in the construction. Your location: the recycling and resource management park Halle-Lochau.
The aim of the sewage sludge mono-incineration plant with power generation via steam turbine and generator is the environmentally friendly and economical recycling of over 33,000 tons of dewatered sewage sludge (TS content of 25%) and 2,700 t/a of externally dried sewage sludge (TS content of 90%) per year. The drying concept is adapted in such a way that all aqueous residues from the vapor treatment can be recycled separately.
The next step will be the economically and ecologically sensible recovery of the vital phosphorus from the sewage sludge ash.
With the implementation of the process according to the latest standards and strict requirements, this plant makes an important contribution to environmental protection.
