Water for peace
World Water Day on 22 March, which has been celebrated by the United Nations (UN) since 1992, is an annual reminder of the importance of water as the most important resource for all life. This year’s theme is “Leveraging Water for Peace”, which loosely translates as “Water for Peace”.
The availability and quality of water can both promote peace and cause conflict. When water is scarce, polluted or when people do not have equitable access to it, tensions can arise between communities and countries. Over 3 billion people worldwide depend on water that flows across national borders. Despite this, only 24 countries have reported agreements to share their water resources.
With the increasing impacts of climate change and population growth, there is an urgent need to unite within and between countries to protect and conserve our most precious resource.
Public health and prosperity, food and energy systems, economic productivity and environmental integrity all depend on a well-functioning and fairly managed water cycle.
At WTE Wassertechnik, everything revolves around the element of water. We preserve this precious resource. As a reliable provider of municipal and industrial water management, we realise projects around the world, from wastewater disposal to wastewater treatment.
