Following an international tendering process, WTE, in consortium with a local company, was awarded the contract for the design, construction and operation of the Anthoupolis Wastewater Treatment Plant in Nicosia, Cyprus. In addition to the turnkey construction of a new wastewater treatment plant, the associated contract includes operational management for 25 years.

operational management by WTE
The plant has a capacity of 13,000 m³/day and 100,000 population equivalents. It uses state-of-the-art wastewater treatment processes with upstream nitrification and denitrification as a two-stage cascade and downstream membrane filtration for solids separation and disinfection – an ideal technology for the reuse of treated wastewater.
In addition to the technical efficiency of wastewater treatment, the plant is highly customised to local needs. The whole architecture ensures harmonious integration into the rolling Cypriot landscape. Based on WTE’s many years of operating experience, all plant components and structures have been designed to ensure functional, reliable and cost-effective operation in the long term.
The treated wastewater meets the highest available standards and is used entirely for irrigation in agriculture, notably for the internationally successful Cypriot potatoes.
With German wastewater technology and long-term operational management, WTE is making a significant contribution to the development of the island’s infrastructure as the basis for a resource-conserving emerging economy.
